  • Hackers Convinced Twitter Employee to Help Them Hijack Accounts

    • After a wave of account takeovers, screenshots of an internal Twitter user administration tool are being shared in the hacking underground.
    • On Wednesday, a spike of high profile accounts including those of Joe Biden, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Barack Obama, Uber, and Apple tweeted cryptocurrency scams in an apparent hack.
    • "We used a rep that literally done all the work for us," one of the sources said.

  • Data breaches decline 33% in the first half of 2020

    • Compared to the first half of 2019, 2020 has shown a significant decrease in US identity compromises. ITRC’s analysis also shows that breaches impacting individuals have dropped by 66% when compared to the first half of 2019.
    • Compromises caused by internal threat actors are at a three-year low according to the IRTC, who stated that this might be due to the pandemic causes more employees to work from home and have decreased access to internal systems.

    • A hacker claims to have breached the backend servers belonging to a US cyber-security firm and stolen information from the company's "data leak detection" service.

  • He flaunted private jets and luxury cars on Instagram. Feds used his posts to link him to alleged cyber crimes

    • To his 2.5 million Instagram followers, he went by Ray Hushpuppi, a man who boarded helicopters from his Dubai waterfront apartment and walked around with shopping bags from Gucci, Versace and Fendi.
    • Last month, United Arab Emirates investigators swooped into his Dubai apartment, arrested him and handed him over to FBI agents, who flew him to Chicago on July 2, federal officials said.
    • In the coming weeks, he'll be transferred to Los Angeles -- where the affidavit was filed -- to face accusations of conspiring to launder hundreds of millions of dollars through cyber crime schemes.
