SUMMARY:EvoNexus + Snell & Wilmer Event - Investor and Startup Expectations for Seed & Series A Rounds in 2024
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday\, May 1st at Snell & Wilmer’s Law Offices from 5:30-7:30pm for an exciting event delving into investor and startup expectations for funding rounds in 2024. \nSecuring venture capital investment in 2023 was incredibly difficult with venture capital on a national level falling 40%. The reasons for that have been well documented throughout the media. Securing venture capital was not only more difficult\, but also took much longer to close. See chart below. 2024 continues to be a tough environment and the reflection of that will be shown once national statistics are released. This program will provide you firsthand experience of recent early-stage fundings with the panel’s respective companies as well as insight from San Diego based NuFund\, that specializes in early-stage investments.

SUMMARY:Collaborative CCOE\, ISACA San Diego Panel Discussion: Cybersecurity Workforce
DESCRIPTION:Cybersecurity is now everyone’s business! \nThe FBI reports more than 150% increase in cybercrime complaints across all industries in the last 5 years\, totaling $37.4 billion in losses. And\, the global cost of a data breach climbed over $4.45 million according to IBM. More than half of these costly attacks are aimed at small and medium-sized businesses – our region’s economic engine. Now\, pair that with the global shortage of cyber professionals to thwart these attacks—to the tune of 448\,000 openings in the U.S. and 5\,000 here in San Diego according to Cyberseek—and it becomes mission critical to address the workforce gap. \n Join ISACA San Diego and Cyber Center of Excellence (CCOE) for a panel discussion about San Diego’s cyber workforce\, in-demand skills\, talent attraction strategies and regional programs helping to seed and diversify the pipeline for this critical industry. \n Featuring panelists from San Diego Regional EDC\, San Diego Workforce Partnership and INDUS Technology. Additional details forthcoming.

SUMMARY:EvoNexus + Snell & Wilmer SIG - Creating a Company: Different Paths to Startup Success!
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, August 20th at Snell & Wilmer‘s Law Offices from 5:30-7:30pm for an exciting event delving into different startups’ humble beginnings. Details below. You will not want to miss out on this informative discussion with three impressive entrepreneurs! \nEntrepreneurs come in all shapes and sizes and all walks of life. Three areas of origin that we see frequently at EvoNexus are those coming straight from a university\, serial entrepreneurs\, and entrepreneurs leaving a big company to start their own. At this program you will hear from all three. Our first example of direct from a university will be DeepWater Exploration. DeepWater Exploration entered EvoNexus as four engineers who had recently graduated from UCSD. They created a camera that was small\, affordable\, had low latency and could withstand pressure. Co-founder and COO Warren Chang will represent the company at this event.

SUMMARY:ISC2 San Diego and ISACA San Diego Joint Event: Forecasting Data Breaches
DESCRIPTION:Data breaches are not as random as you might think. Building upon previous work forecasting fraud among business customers\, we discovered something often overlooked by practitioners. Insufficient staffing is a strong predictor of data breach\, and surprisingly\, audit staff is just as effective at preventing a data breach as staff working in information technology. \nThis session will demonstrate how a cybersecurity data breach can be accurately forecast based upon the number of employees overall\, and the number of employees with certain certifications that relate to cybersecurity\, including the ISC2 CISSP and ISACA CISA certifications. You will learn how this approach of measuring cybersecurity could help your organization to set risk appetite goals in terms of expected frequency of a data breach\, and how to right size the cybersecurity team and manage third-party data breach risk to meet these goals.
