DESCRIPTION:The job hunting game is changing. If you’re a programmer looking to score a job at a tech company or a recruiter looking for talent\, you are probably placing less of an emphasis on job fairs. Instead\, you are probably taking part in the modern-day tech career fair equivalent: a Hackathon. \nContrary to what the name entails\, a Hackathon  – at least as we know it – is not a large scale event where people gather to hack into computers and networks. Rather\, it’s a multi-day event\, where people converge to engage in collaborative computer programming. \nBeginning Oct. 2\, more than 1\,000 students from across the world will meet in San Diego for 36 hours at SDHacks. What started as an idea by the UC San Diego Triton Engineering Student Council (TESC) has already morphed into a grand-scale event. So far\, of the 1\,000 student signed up\, two-thirds of them hail from outside the San Diego region\, making SDHacks an attractive place for companies looking for talent. \nWith companies like Microsoft and Qualcomm already signed up to sponsor\, the Hackathon promises to attract some of the best and brightest students from across the globe.  \nEDC’s economic development committee has been supporting the work of the TESC. We’re looking for companies to join us in making this a success and ensuring that many of these talented job seekers know San Diego isn’t just a nice place to participate in a Hackathon\, but that it’s an excellent place to launch a career.

SUMMARY:3rd Annual BSR Sustainability Hackathon: San Diego Kick-Off
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a month of hacking\, innovating\, and creating technology applications that will have a positive impact on the world. The Hackathon is virtual\, allowing teams to work remotely anytime during the month\, and is open to participants from around the globe. The top team will receive US$5\,000 and join us in San Francisco\, CA\, to present to more than 1\,000 sustainability professionals at the BSR Conference 2015. \nThe hackathon theme is Transformative Technology: helping empower people and enhance quality of life around the globe. Sample topics include economic development\, inclusive economy\, smart cities\, efficient transportation\, and cost-efficient healthcare. \nWe are hosting kick-off receptions in New York\, San Diego\, and San Francisco on September 17 for prospective hackers to meet and brainstorm. Additional information about these events is available at hackathon.bsr15.org. \nDETAILS: Registration is required. Please register at hackathon.bsr15.org by September 17 to guarantee a slot. You can connect with other participants online if you’re looking for a team. \nBy midnight on Saturday October 17\, your team will submit a 3-4 minute video highlighting your working prototype and process. The top 5 teams will be invited to pitch to our esteemed judges in the final round\, and winners will be announced on October 26.
