SUMMARY:CyberFest 2015 - The Urban Jungle
DESCRIPTION:This event is co-produced by Securing Our eCity Foundation and CyberTECH. We are please to bring this exciting event to San Diego. \nWHAT WILL YOU LEARN ABOUT \n“In 2008\, there were already more “things” connected to the Internet than people. By 2020\, the amount of Internet connected things will reach 50 billion\, with $19 trillion in profits and cost savings coming from IOT over the next decade. \nNow\, in 2015 our world has rapidly transformed to become The Urban Jungle where individuals and organizations are connected to the Internet nearly 100% of the time. While there are huge up-sides to the connectivity\, with it comes the need for increased responsibilities at both a personal and business level. \nThis year’s keynote address will be co-delivered by Tom Ridge and Howard Schmidt of Ridge-Schmidt Cyber. Their joint perspectives on current events and the potential global impact is something you will want to hear. \nTOPICS TO INCLUDE: \n\nCase Studies – What happened? Could the breach have been prevented? How?\nSecuring the Internet of Things – Is security a part of the design? Should it be?\nGovernment leaders and our future leaders – Do they agree on cyber security?\nCorporate or personal brand – What happens after the breach? Can one recover? How?\n\nTABLE TOPICS: \n\nWhere do you fit in the Critical Infrastructure?\nCyber Hygiene – What we all need to do to keep a clean machine?\nLeading cyber practices and Policies?\n\nPanel Discussions and much more….

SUMMARY:SD Hacks
DESCRIPTION:The job hunting game is changing. If you’re a programmer looking to score a job at a tech company or a recruiter looking for talent\, you are probably placing less of an emphasis on job fairs. Instead\, you are probably taking part in the modern-day tech career fair equivalent: a Hackathon. \nContrary to what the name entails\, a Hackathon – at least as we know it – is not a large scale event where people gather to hack into computers and networks. Rather\, it’s a multi-day event\, where people converge to engage in collaborative computer programming. \nBeginning Oct. 2\, more than 1\,000 students from across the world will meet in San Diego for 36 hours at SDHacks. What started as an idea by the UC San Diego Triton Engineering Student Council (TESC) has already morphed into a grand-scale event. So far\, of the 1\,000 student signed up\, two-thirds of them hail from outside the San Diego region\, making SDHacks an attractive place for companies looking for talent. \nWith companies like Microsoft and Qualcomm already signed up to sponsor\, the Hackathon promises to attract some of the best and brightest students from across the globe. \nEDC’s economic development committee has been supporting the work of the TESC. We’re looking for companies to join us in making this a success and ensuring that many of these talented job seekers know San Diego isn’t just a nice place to participate in a Hackathon\, but that it’s an excellent place to launch a career.

SUMMARY:Maritime Security 2015 West
DESCRIPTION:Maritime Security 2015 West is the third installment of the Maritime Security West program series\, building upon the successes of last year’s conference in Tacoma\, WA. As the twelfth maritime security conference hosted by Homeland Security Outlook since 2011\, Maritime Security 2015 West furthers a commitment to address the needs of governments\, law enforcement\, and critical infrastructure to counter the challenges of securing coastlines\, inland waterways\, and their critical infrastructure. \nMaritime Security 2015 West provides discussion and collaboration on strategies and technologies to counter maritime security threats encountered by governments\, law enforcement\, and port/terminal owners and operators. Interactive workshop sessions are designed to give all conference participants the actionable knowledge on how to better secure their maritime areas of responsibility\, mainly by stressing the importance of collaboration\, efficiency\, and best practices. Each topic will be addressed by relevant perspectives of those who have implemented successful strategies and technologies in their maritime security operations.

SUMMARY:NDIA San Diego Event-Small Business CYBER Forum
DESCRIPTION:This SMB Informational Forum is intended to provide valuable cyber security and privacy information to Company Management and IT staff regarding some essential security facts and high-value\, basic actions that we can all take to insure our company protection – people\, assets and data. This subject is much too important a subject to just hand off to your IT folks (where many are not adequately conversant in security); as we all really need to understand the threat and the huge consequences and legal liabilities (and fines\, as well as loss of reputation) of not being minimally protected. \nBeing in business means you must follow the expected “due care” obligations of adequately protecting your clients and business – and each of those elements must be done at some minimal ‘due diligence’ level – security and privacy included. So how does one cut through the ‘fog of cybersecurity” and know ‘what must be done’ – as well as be aware of the FREE resources out there to help protect ourselves and our companies.
