SUMMARY:3rd Annual USD Cyber Law & Risk Symposium
DESCRIPTION:3rd Annual USD Cyber Law & Risk Symposium\nPassage of cyber laws like the California Consumer Privacy Act in 2020 require lawyers to make informed decisions about “reasonable cybersecurity\,” and technologists to understand the legal risk for failing to comply. The importance of hybrid cyber professionals and collaboration across organizations is critically important. The University of San Diego’s Center for Cyber Security Engineering and Technology will host the Third Annual Cyber Law\, Risk and Policy Symposium to be held at the Institute for Peace & Justice on November 4\, 2021. This one day Symposium will explore the intersection of cyber and law by offering comprehensive and thoughtful panels on managing vendor cyber risk\, assessing and calculating cyber risk\, understanding “reasonable security\,” developing defensible security programs\, learning from global comparative cyber laws\, participating in a cyber law roundtable\, conversing with law enforcement (including FBI\, District Attorney and California Attorney General’s Office)\, and observing a live data breach and incident response. Learn from world thought-leaders on the future of cyber law\, network with peers\, and develop skills as a hybrid cyber professional. Cyber Law Attendance Certificates will be provided to attendees that attend the entire day.

SUMMARY:NCSA Webinar: Cybersecurity Crossroads - The Intersection of Information\, Technology\, and People
DESCRIPTION:Join the National Cyber Security Alliance and Nasdaq for the 2021 Cybersecurity Summit\, “Cybersecurity Crossroads: The Intersection of Information\, Technology\, and People.” The challenges faced by the cybersecurity community today are hitting mainstream headlines. However\, new approaches to information sharing\, securing technologies\, and human-centric cyber training can empower organizations and professionals to enable a safer\, more secure world. \nIn honor of Cybersecurity Awareness Month\, experts will delve into the current cybersecurity landscape\, and discuss how looking at cybersecurity as an intersection of information\, technology and people can secure its future. \nFeatured Sessions:\nFlipping the Switch: Prioritizing People in Cybersecurity \nOver the past year\, the cybersecurity industry has focused on its greatest asset: people. In the past\, people-centric cybersecurity training may have been considered a low-tech approach\, but the importance of a comprehensive internal training program can often be one of the most important defenses in an organization. Cyber policies must be coupled with comprehensive employee training to minimize human error and risks to company data in the long run. This session will discuss how to implement psychologically-based\, behavior-changing approaches to employee training\, and best practices for implementing and measuring effective training and awareness programs. \nGlobal Information Sharing to Disarm Cyber Criminals \nCybersecurity experts have long advocated for increased information sharing between the public and private sectors. Increased collaboration creates a rich environment for industry experts to thwart threats from bad actors. In this session\, experts will explain why a united front between government and businesses across the globe can elevate cyber response tactics as a whole\, and what needs to be done to achieve a better information exchange dynamic in the future. \nThe Cybersecurity Solution: Educating Future Leaders \nWhat can cyber leaders do today to create a strong\, resilient\, diverse cyber workforce for tomorrow? While the cybersecurity industry is constantly growing and evolving\, there is a gap between supply and demand. Currently\, there is a 3.12 million global workforce shortage of workers with cybersecurity skills with an increasing need to improve the amount of diverse workers in the field of cybersecurity. Some experts suggest that the answer is to educate students at an earlier age to prepare them for a career in cybersecurity later in life. In this panel\, leading experts discuss educating future leaders and whether or not teaching cybersecurity to a younger audience could settle the skills gap. \nFireside Chat: The Supply Chain Ripple Effect \nAs one of the most devastating attacks on US infrastructure in recent years\, the SolarWinds incident showed the world how a basic supply chain attack can send ripples through entire network infrastructures\, allowing bad actors to penetrate the most complex business and government networks in the country.  Join experts for a discussion of how one vulnerability can affect an entire ecosystem\, and the steps cybersecurity leaders can take to mitigate the ripple effect.

SUMMARY:NICE Webinar Featuring CCOE: Introducing Cybersecurity Apprenticeships in Federal Environments
DESCRIPTION:Federal agencies can use apprenticeship as part of their overall human resources strategy to build a custom pipeline of highly-skilled talent. There are over 150 apprenticeship programs across the federal government that enroll nearly 1\,500 apprentices spanning healthcare\, financial services\, transportation\, and skilled trades occupations\, yet thus far no programs for cybersecurity work roles. Why is now the time to experiment with cybersecurity apprenticeships?  What would it take to build a such a program? What are the barriers to overcome?  How can we make progress as a community?  These questions\, and more\, will be addressed by an expert panel with diverse insights and perspectives.

SUMMARY:Corporate Directors Forum Anatomy of a Cyber Ransom Breakfast Briefing
DESCRIPTION:Who would have predicted that holding information hostage\, using extortion software\, could become so profitable for cybercriminals? \nOver the last decade\, more and more cases are in the news discussing how very significant organizations can no longer operate because access to their data and functionality of their computers is being held for ransom. These attacks have become professionalized and some estimates place damages at hundreds of millions per year. Our experts will break down the “evidence” and provide techniques to address: \n\nWhat behaviors put organizations at greater risk?\nHow can directors and business leaders be prepared to act quickly to mitigate risk when an attack happens?\nWhat security measures should be implemented\, and can attacks be thwarted?\nHow can web-savviness be enhanced to avoid business disruption and financial loss?\nWhat industry segments are the most vulnerable?\n\nCCOE Discount Code: SDCCOE-101521 (case sensitive) for a $25 discount on registration.

SUMMARY:Cooley Webinar: Cyber Risks Are Evolving – And Impacting Your Cyber Insurance
DESCRIPTION:Cooley lawyers David Navetta and Paul Moura will speak at this event. \nCyber risks are exposures that are top-of-mind for many organizations\, and rightfully so. As cyber risks continue to evolve\, they stand to pose larger and more costly threats to victims. Advancements in technology\, including reliance on artificial intelligence and biometric data\, create broader cyber vulnerabilities\, and recent systemic risk events demonstrate how cyberattacks are capable of threatening entire industries. \nWith these developments\, the cyber insurance market is tightening considerably. Cyber insurers are taking more aggressive positions with their policyholders and offering narrower coverages as compared to years past. This program will discuss these recent trends and offer practical considerations for maximizing your cyber insurance options in an increasingly challenging market. \nFor more information\, please email Laura Miller.

SUMMARY:NCSA Webinar: Non-People Identities: the New Battleground in Cloud Security
DESCRIPTION:Identity security used to be straightforward – one person\, one identity. Now in a modern public cloud deployment\, identities are innumerable and critical to securing your data. Non-people identities – like servers\, VMs\, serverless functions\, applications\, etc. – are being created at a rapid pace\, sometimes by services without a person ever involved. \nCloud providers like Azure\, AWS\, and GCP have given us tools to help govern access\, but they can be made insecure by simple configuration errors or omissions – and they’re very different approaches\, creating complexity for multicloud deployments. Governance requires a new approach that meets this new reality of ephemeral compute and complex webs of permission combinations. \nJoin this session to learn: \n\nWhat we mean by non-people identities\nWhat problems these identities cause\nBest practices for managing them\, including out-of-box configuration changes\nImmediate steps anyone can take today to secure the identities\n\nSpeakers: \nEric Kedrosky\, CISO & Director of Cloud Research\, Sonrai Security \nDave Shackleford\, Founder and Principal Consultant\, Voodoo Security
